Introduction
The Central Department of Nepalese History, Culture and Archaeology is one of the oldest departments of Tribhuvan University. When Tri-Chandra College was established in 1918, History was introduced with other subjects. It was Prof. Gokul Chandra Malhotra (Shastri) from the History department who introduced Culture at the bachelor's level. In the remarkable year 1959, Culture was introduced as a separate subject at the postgraduate level under the name Department of Culture. It introduced different courses on Religion & Philosophy, Archaeology, Pre-History, Iconography, Architecture and Numismatics. In 1971, it was renamed the Central Department of Nepalese History, Culture and Archaeology (NeHCA). Again in 1972 after the introduction of the New Education System, this discipline was introduced at the intermediate level. Later on, Cultural Tourism and Museology were further added. Courses have been and are updated as per the need of time and experts’ advice. At present, the department runs Semester system classes as per the academic calendar of Tribhuvan University. The department also collaborates with reputed international partners and universities to provide standard academic learning spheres for students.
